Ransom County Fair begins this week

 Everyone is gearing up for the 57th Ransom County Fair that opens on Wednesday, August 26th at 3:30pm and closes Sunday afternoon at 10pm with the closing down of the Merriam Amusement Carnival!

Wednesday, August 26th features the 4-H and FFA Livestock entries. The Open Class Static Entry is at 7pm in the Expo Center. And, the Sheyenne River Speedway Races begin at 7:30pm. And for the young and young-at-heart, the carnival opens up at 6pm for all.

All morning and afternoon on Thursday, August 27th, judging will be taking place on rabbits, livestock which includes beef, sheep, dairy, swine, poultry and goats.

Something new to the Fair, Yodeler Kristy Goldade will take the outdoor stage at 5pm and 6:30pm. The FREE Corn Feed and Roast Pork meal will be served at 6pm.

Then the Miss Ransom County Pageant will begin at 7pm featuring eight candidates vying for the title of Ransom County Queen. Last year’s Queen, Cassandra Hanson of Enderlin, will be on hand to crown the 2009 Queen. Queen candidates include Anne Carlson, Alexa Dixson, Jordan Finger, Jessie Flatt, Morgan Olson, Stephanie Stensgard, Jordan Strand and Whitney Toyne. Also performing and vying for the Princess crown will be Amber Aardahl, Violet Cavett, Hayleigh Lautt, Justina Nieves, Rebecca Nord, Breanna Remmick and Cora Wagner. 2008 Princess, Haley Olson, will crown the new winner.

The Livestock Premium Sale is set for 4:30pm in the livestock barn on Friday. Top prize-winning animals will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The animal stays with its owner, who receives a premium.

Another Queen will be crowned on Friday, August 28th, the 2008 Rodeo Queen. The candidates will be judged in horsemanship, speech, interviews, and modeling and the winner will be crowned just prior to the rodeo.

The evening’s big event will be the 10th annual Bull-A-Rama at 8pm. The Bull-A-Rama is sponsored by Titan Machinery. At intermission there will the Junior Bulls competition for youth ages 8-14.

Fireworks will follow the rodeo and people may sit in the grandstand to enjoy the display.

Saturday is Kid’s Day at the Fair. For the kids there will be Tractor Pull registration at 9am, Pedal Tractor Pull (ages 4-10) at 9:30am, a Money Scramble at 10:30am, the Pet Parade at 11am, and fun with LaDitzy the Clown beginning at 11:30am and sponsored by Nick Storhaug, CPA & Wiltse Brothers. At noon there will be a bike giveaway which is sponsored by Pheasants Forever.

The Ransom County Fair Parade will begin at 5pm. followed by music by Greg Hager a country musician. In the evening, beginning at 9pm will be the Party in the Dirt! with 32 Below.

Don’t think the Fair is over Saturday evening? Sunday, August 30th, the paint ball event begins at 10am along with church services at 10:30am. At 11am the Ransom County Fair Car & Motorcycle Show begins. At 1pm there will be a Bluegrass Jam featuring UFFDA Mountain Boys.

Kids, remember that wristband rides ($14) may be used between the hours of 1-6pm.

The Demo Derby will be at 2pm on Sunday. All entries must be checked in by 1pm. Two competitions will be held: the 80s and newer Style Car Derby and the 1/2 or 3/4-ton Pickup Derby. This event is sponsored by CornerStone Bank.
