High temperature during the week was 85 degrees and the low was 45 degrees.

Scott Huether at 208 Fifth Avenue received the Way To Go! award sponsored by the Enderlin Lions Club and GFWC Study Club.

Burnell and Lila Trangsrud were going to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house at First Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 5. They were married November 19, 1950.

Pete and Marilyn Menge were going to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary at an open house at the VFW Club on Friday, August 4.

Kristina Spiekermeier and Kevin Stoneking announced their engagement. An August 12 wedding in Fairbault, MN was planned.

It was announced that Carla “CJ” Marsh and Francis “Fritz” Becker were married June 3 in Casselton.

Funeral services were held for Paul Olson, 66, of Fort Ransom; Lyle W. Otteson, 59, of Kansas City, MO; Lucille (Johnson) Anderson, 80, of Enderlin.

20 Years Ago, 1990

Cheryl and Robert Twete announced the July 20 birth of Christine Diane.

Diane Hall announced the July 12 birth of Samantha Marie Hall.

Leah Kaspari and Scott Rocholl announced their engagement. A September 14 wedding in Fargo was planned.

The engagement of Jill Christine Wavra to John Joseph Arens was announced. An August 18 wedding at Detroit Lakes was planned.

Don and Tracey Erickson of Willmar, Minn. announced the July 15 birth of Garrett Neil Erickson.

A funeral service was held for Lucille E. (Henderson) Redmond, 79, of Enderlin.

30 Years Ago, 1980

The good news the past week was that area crops received much need rain. Reports of up to 2 inches of rain were received Thursday night and Friday morning. The bad news was that along with the rain, high winds and hail whipped through the area leaving a trail of heavy crop damage.

The Les Neumiller Jr. home at 510 - 5th Avenue was the latest winner of the Yard Improvement award.

The Anselm Elevator was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon.

A funeral service was held for Inga Syverson, 97, of Enderlin.

Prices: Bartlett Pears for $0.49 lb. at Mitch’s Jack and Jill, 12 oz. John Morrell Sliced Bacon for $0.89 lb. at Dick’s Super Valu.

40 Years Ago, 1970

Soo Line locomotive No. 2425, in its fifteenth year of retirement, was getting a new coat of paint and soon would be all spiffed up again. The steam engine was a veteran of 45 years of work when it was moved to Baxter Park in 1955.

Miss Barbara J. Busse and Mr. Denis H. Freitag were married Saturday, June 27 in Beaulieu, Minn.

A funeral service was held for Mrs. Roy (Cora Romsos) Rasmusson, 71, of Enderlin.

Prices: Sweet Corn for $0.05 each at Hal’s Red Owl, Doz. Sunkist Lemons for $0.59 at Tosseth’s Super Valu.

50 Years Ago, 1960

High temperature during the week was 99 degrees, the low was 54 degrees, and .05 of rain was recorded.

Work began during the week on a new Dairy Queen store in Enderlin. The new business was going to be located at the rear of the Red Owl Store on Railway Street. The business would be owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Jim Combs. It would be of all-steel construction. Mr. Combs said it should be ready for operation in approximately three weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Erickson of Edina, Minn. became parents of a daughter, Anita Kae, born July 19.

The engagement of Dorothy Ann Gibson to Elmer Heinrick was announced.

Mr. and Mrs. Loren Howe of Nome became the parents of a daughter, Laurel Leigh, born July 20 at St. Luke’s hospital in Fargo.

Funeral services were held for Carl Jacobson of Oakland, Calif., formerly Enderlin and Sheldon; Edward Peter Hansen, 74, of Enderlin; Oscar J. Erickson, 49, of Linton.

Prices: Seedless Green Grapes for $0.19 lb. at Red Owl, 2 cans frozen Lemonade for $0.25 at Cox’s Market, Heinz Tomato Soup for $0.10 at Martin’s Super Valu.

60 Years Ago, 1950

O. C. Retzlaff will retire August 1 after 28 years as manager of the Salzer Lumber Co. He will be succeeded by Orvis Johnson, who has been associated with the company several years. Mr. Johnson also succeeds Mr. Retzlaff as clerk of the Enderlin school district.

Local News: Nancy Curtis, daughter of a former Methodist minister here, Rev. B. B. Curtis, is visiting at the A. P. Ziegenhagen home. Her sisters, Linda and Virginia, are staying with Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Anderson at their farm home.

Fifty-seven riders performed for 150 spectators at the trail ride and horse show put on by the Enderlin Bridle and Saddle club and the Fargo Saddle club at Bohnsack ranch last Sunday. Ardell Slattum of Fort Ransom displayed his trick horse, Billy. The program also included a water glass race for children, garment races and musical chairs and other games on horseback. Everyone there had a free lunch served by Frieda Bohnsack and free ice cream served by Fairmont Creamery.

A funeral service was held for Ernest Eugene Bailey, 71, of Enderlin.

The Daughter of Rosie O’Grady starring June Haver and Gordon MacRae was playing at the Grand Theatre.
