Red Knights donate $600

Area firemen from Valley City, Litchville, LaMoure, Nome, Wimbledon and Luverne who are members of the Red Knights Chapter 1 of North Dakota, give back to their communities, especially to people who have suffered losses from fire. The Red Knights donation selection this time was a gift of $300 each to David and Laurie Geyer, who lost their home to fire on March 3rd, and to Howard Anderson, whose home burned to the ground on February 1st.

A fund has been set up at all CornerStone Banks for these two area families. Mark Formo from Litchville and Earl Christensen from Nome were in Enderlin to present the checks to Diane Jordet at the bank.

The Red Knights are firemen who ride motorcycles and want to give back to people who have suffered losses due to fire. Each year they plan a ride to earn money for their giving. Each rider pays a ride registration fee and they also receive donations from sponsors, such as Plains Grain & Agronomy of Enderlin, Lisbon, and Marion and Titan Equipment.

The original Red Knights organization was formed in 1982 in Boylston, MA. Currently there are 328 chapters and 9,000 members in eleven countries.

To become a member you must be an active or retired firefighter, career, part paid, on call, volunteer, military or industrial, who own or have access to any brand of motorcycle. The chapters also accept social and associate memberships.

The North Dakota Red Knights was formed in 2006 and had their first 911 ride in the fall of 2007. In 2009 their ride had about 300 motorcycle riders. They currently have 36 members. In the years since their beginnings they have donated to families in Wimbledon, two in Valley City, Mandan, Fargo and now Enderlin and Sheldon.
