At their regular March meeting, the Enderlin City Council voted to replace street signs.

New members inducted into the National Honor Society on Sunday, March 5 were Abbey Midthun, Haley Hamre, Rachel Rasmusson, Nicole Welle and Miranda Encarnacion

The Enderlin Lions welcomed six new members at their March 1 meeting. They were Jerry Johnson, Jerry Carlson, Mary Yonker, Gary Yonker, Jr., John Larson and Don Chesley.

Funeral services were held for Pearlette Fish, 95, of St. Louis Park, MN; Muriel E. (Bratland) Flesness, 76, of Lisbon; Karol L. Krom, 81, of Milton, ND; Florence (Larson) Pederson, 96, of Forsyth, MT, formerly Verona; Gary W. Penberty, 59, of Des Moines, IA; Richard E. Torbenson, 86, of Enderlin; Birdie V. Welton, 106, of Bloomington, MN; Helen (Skramstad) Infield, 93, of Elbow Lake, MN.

20 Years Ago, 1990

Enderlin Eagles Region I Champs: Not since 1977 had an Enderlin Eagles basketball team earned a state tournament berth, but on Tuesday, March 6, the 1990 Eagles made history repeat itself when they defeated a favored-to-win Oak Grove team in overtime 51-49. Individual scoring was as follows: Keith Finger 1, Chris Davidson 7, Corey Knecht 24, Mike Opheim 14, Jamie Wadeson 3, Pat Adair 2.

Moore and Liberty Telephone Company had completed a two year project of preparing for the use of fiber optic cable.

Funeral services were held for Nellie (Martin) Schall, 90, of Valley City, and Lawrence “Sy” Cox, 90, of Grand Forks.

30 Years Ago, 1980

High temperature during the week was 35 degrees, the low was minus 25 degrees, and .11 of precipitation was recorded.

Hazel Otterburn retired after fourteen years as postmistress in Sheldon.

Larry Nelson, owner of the Enderlin Cafe, opened Mad Mama’s Pizza in the former City Bakery building. A small pepperoni pizza cost $2.00 and a large was $3.00. Pop was $0.25 and coffee $0.50.

Mr. and Mrs. Marty Skramstad of Wahpeton announced the February 17 birth of Douglas John.

The engagement of Susan Diane DeGrand to Rick Lee was announced. A June 7 wedding in Enderlin was planned.

The engagement of Laurie Sommerfeld to Tim Wetsch was announced. A September 5 wedding in Bismarck was planned.

The engagement of Diane Offermann to Jeff Huss was announced. A May 23 wedding in Sheldon was planned.

Adolph Teske, formerly of Enderlin, celebrated his 100th birthday on February 21.

Miss Diane Louise Johnson of Valley City became the bride of Mr. Keith Allen Anderson of Sheldon on December 21, 1979, in Valley City.

The engagement of Sherry Auck to Donald Peterson was announced. A July 18 wedding in Fergus Falls was planned.

A funeral service was held for Beatrice Orien (Johnson) Stensrud, 68, of Marshall, Mn.

40 Years Ago, 1970

High temperature during the week was 36 degrees and the low was 0 degrees. Six inches of snow fell on Sunday, and a thunder and lightning storm Monday evening dumped an inch and three-quarters of rain during the night.

The engagement of Margaret Arlene Pederson to Mr. Norman Johnson was announced. A June 27 wedding was planned.

The Enderlin TOPS club held its annual awards night Wednesday, February 25, at Morry’s. Janice Lee was crowned queen for the year during the awards ceremonies. Other winners were Sharon Lautt, Louise Van Ornum, Beverly Robertson, Florence Nichols, and Gladys Bunn.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen Fritz of Kansas City, Mo., announced the birth of Marc Barry on February 25.

Mr. and Mrs. Oral Compson are the proud parents of their first child, Dawn Marie, born Friday, February 27.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hanson of White Bear Lake, Minn. announced the February 21 birth of Tracey Michelle.

Mr. and Mrs. Tim Mark became the proud parents of a daughter, Mary Lynn, born on Sunday, March 1 in Lisbon.

Funeral services were held for Edward Ertelt, 74, of Valley City, and William S. Smylie, 69, of Sidney, Montana.

Maxine Lois Erickson became the bride of Darwin Lee Nelson of Minneapolis on January 23 at Richfield Free church.

Locals: Mr. and Mrs. Wyman Galbreath drove to Fargo Monday evening and visited his mother, Mrs. Lizzie Galbreath who is a patient at St. Luke’s hospital.

Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki, The Mouse That Roared!, and The Yearling starring Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman were playing at the Grand Theatre.

60 Years Ago, 1950

Enderlin high school basketball team took the consolation championship at the district tournament which was held at Ellendale March 2-3-4.

Postal service at Venlo is being discontinued effective March 15, according to word received this week from the postal department. The building housing the Venlo post office was destroyed by fire last December, the blaze also destroying the Venlo store and household goods of Postmaster Jay Swanson and his family.

The Oehlke airport at the west edge of the city has been closed to all traffic except emergency landings until April 15, announces Richard T. Oehlke, manager. Oehlke points out that the grass turf on the runways is only two years old, and sod not thick enough to sustain airplane traffic during spring thawing conditions.

The Wizard of Oz, Home of the Brave, and The Fountainhead starring Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal were playing at the Grand Theatre.

70 Years Ago, 1940

Proceedings of the City Council: The City Council met in regular session, Mayor Lewis Larson presiding. Aldermen present were Jones, Simonette, Nelson, Dillon and Anderson. Absent Alderman Deis. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as read. Mr. Oehlke appeared before the City Council with a request for water to be used to start grass on the banks of the overpass. It was moved by Simonette and seconded by Nelson that the request be granted. Upon roll call all members present voted “Aye”, none voted against and the motion carried.

From the Siren (Enderlin High School Paper): Ken Kennedy of WDAY was in Enderlin Tuesday night to make electrical transcriptions of the band and choir. The band played three numbers which were, “Victory and Fame March”, “Trovian Overture” and “Teddy Bear’s Picnic”. The three numbers by the choir were, “Nune Dimitis”, “Ding Dong” and “Beautiful Saviour”. The transcription will be broadcast over WDAY April 28 on the Daveau Music Hour.
