~Unofficial Results~ Ransom County June 10, 2008 ‘Vote By Mail’ Elections Return

Eight hundred thirty-three Ransom County residents voted in the June 10, 2008 Primary Election. According to County Auditor, Connie Gilbert, only 574 people voted in the last presidential primary. Gilbert introduced a “Vote By Mail” primary election on a trial basis. Included on this mail-in ballot was the county, state, and the cities of Enderlin and Lisbon issues. School elections were held at each respective school.

In Ransom County 478 (57.38 percent) votes were cast on the Democratic-NPL side of the ticket and 314 (37.70 percent) were cast on the Republican side. The Non-Partisan ticket received 41 (4.92 percent).

On the Republican Ticket the following was recorded: Duane Sand, Representative in Congress, 300; State Senator 24th District, Dwight Grotberg, 220; State Senator 26th District, Donnell (Nell) Walstead, 61; State Representative 24th District, Jon Wagar 203 and Dwight Kiefert 206; State Representative 26th District, John “Jiggs” Dyste 55 and Gary Schnell 66; Governor and Lt. Governor, John Hoeven 302; State Auditor, Robert R. (Bob) Peterson 290; State Treasurer, Kelly L. Schmidt 285; Insurance Commissioner, Adam Hamm 288; Public Service Commissioner, Brian Kalk 288.

On the Democratic-NPL Ticket the following was recorded: Earl Pomeroy, Representative in Congress, 473; State Senator 24th District, Larry Robinson, 374; State Senator 26th District, Jim Dotzenrod, 82; State Representative 24th District, Phil Mueller 350 and Ralph Metcalf 363; State Representative 26th District, Jerome “Jerry”Kelsh 67 and Bill Amerman 71; Governor and Lt. Governor, Tim Mathern 439; State Auditor, Daryl Splichal 432; State Treasurer, Mitch Vance 431; Insurance Commissioner, Jasper Schneider 429; Public Service Commissioner, Cheryl Bergian 433.

On the No Party: Superintendent of Public Instruction: Max L. Laird 200, Wayne G. Sanstead 550; Justice of the Supreme Court: Mary Maring 722 and Daniel J. Crothers 684; Judge of the District Court No. 5:, Southeast Judicial District: Daniel D. Narum 716.

The State Constitutional Measure 1 was defeated 423 No to 264 Yes.

In the county races the following votes and decisions were made:

County Commissioner - Two Year Term (to fill out the remaining portion of the late Ron Torbenson’s term): David Olson 219, Neil Olerud 546, and two write-ins.

County Commissioner - Four Year Terms: George D. Bunn 655; Kevin Bishop 504; Steve Dick 582; Darla L. Smith 465; write-ins 7.

All of the candidates for County Commissioner will advance to the General Election in November.

Warren “Bud” Lyons, who was unopposed for Director of the Garrison Diversion Conservancy received 723 votes.

Enderlin City Council Election: (The Top Three are winners) Elva Engstrom 130, Kevin Bunn 156, Ben Trottier 88, Write-in 64.

Enderlin Park Board: (Top Three are winners) Ross Berglund 152, Arne Bratland 152, Lisa Mangler 144, and write-ins 4.

Enderlin City Measure to Publish the Minutes: 143 Yes; 18 No.

The County Measure to increase the mill levy for the Ransom County Extension Office instead of supplementing the department through the general fund failed: 482 No; 298 Yes.

City of Lisbon Council: Patrick Adair 275, Jerry Gemar 273, LyDell Mairs 275, write ins 3.

Lisbon Park Board: David K. Olson 268, Jay Steiner 262, Debbie Jensen 270, write ins 3.

Lisbon City Measure to Publish the Minutes: 290 Yes, 26 No.

City of Sheldon there was a new mayor elected by write in votes. Bob Buss received 9 votes out of 17 total voters. Others receiving write in votes for mayor were Wayne Little, Rick Taylor, Maria Boeder Bartholomay, Gary Bjugstad and Tyson Hoy.

City of Sheldon City Council: Linda Close 17, Denise Bartholomay 14, Julie Hanson 16. A total of 17 people voted.

Sheldon City Council vote against publishing the minutes.

City of Fort Ransom City Council: Darrel Bjone 11, Hugh Thorfinnson 7.

City of Fort Ransom vote to publish the minutes: No 6, Yes 4.

Fort Ransom School Board: Jerry Lautt and Lynn Thorfinnson won.
